Plastics and Ocean Justice:

Earth Law Center is thrilled to introduce our new report: 'Advancing Ocean Justice in the Global Plastics Treaty.' This report serves as a strategic guide to promoting ocean justice within the framework of the Global Plastics Treaty (GPT). View the Press Release.

The Revised Zero Draft (ZD), prepared by the International Negotiating Committee (INC), marks a significant step toward global governance and regulation of plastics.

The full lifecycle of plastics disproportionately harms the ocean and marginalized communities and demands a response grounded in justice.

However, the absence of the word “justice” in the treaty text, much less a substantive incorporation of human rights, underscores the need to integrate them meaningfully.

With the next round of negotiations scheduled for April in Ottawa, Canada (INC-4), this report and other available resources below can serve as vital advocacy tools, including the INC-4 Call to Action Brief.
